About The Artist
Tomasz Misztal
Tomasz Misztal was born in Poland and currently lives and works in Portland, Oregon. He earned his Masters of Fine Art and Ph.D. from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, Poland and taught as a faculty professor at the Academy from 1982 to 1993. He has also taught art privately throughout his career.
Tomasz has work in many international museums and institutions, in eluding work in Sachseln, Switzerland; Lisbon and the Azores, Portugal; Berlin, Germany; Warsaw, Gdansk, & Warka, Poland; and most notably, in the Vatican Collection.
He has also participated in countless art collective exhibitions in the US and abroad and won a silver medal in the International Biennale of Modern Art in Florence, Italy in 2011 in the category Work on Paper. He has also had many solo exhibitions.
Tomasz has created art for many commissions for private and public entities. These include many churches and monasteries since he has a particular focus on sacred art. His piece in the Vatican Collection was commissioned for the Solidarity Movement on behalf of the Gdynia dock workers as a gift for Pope John Paul II in 1987.
